I'm using 1.5.1, new install... not much in the way of mods as I'm new to OC.
I'm stumped... I've searched and searched... no answers to be found.
I'm trying to activate the Manufactures/Brands Module (which I've renamed to 'Themes' only in the front end)
But it's completely missing in the Modules section.
I cannot figure out how to activate/make it visible under the categories box... example here:
http://tzelewski.co.uk/template/kinder/ ... ry&path=20
Any ideas?

I too have noticed the lack of support for a drop down manufacturers list since v1.5.
My site doesn't need to specify manufacturers, but I wanted to use that module as a quick and easy way to select products by construction material.
The solution I arrived at was to create another category called "Materials A-Z" and then subcategories within that for each variation. Every time I add a new product I put it into two categories: 'Material>[variation]' and whichever one applies to the product type.
I set the list order for 'Materials' to 1, so now in my top navigation bar I now have that drop down menu on the left, listing materials that will bring up an item from any category that satisfies the material selected. I will use CSS to make the text bold or background darker to distinguish that 'Materials' category from all of the others.
I think it would work fine as a text based drop down manufacturers list.

clone the information module!
Unless you want the over head of having subcategories and 100+ queries added
