modules doesn't appear in admin

i did try to upload different modules but they just don't appear in the admin/extensions/modules section. what am i doing wrong? i am using the opencart v1.4.9. where exactly should i upload these modules in the open cart directory? please help..thanks a lot!

Usually there is installation instructions which should guide you to install these modules. Cart root directory is the usual place where you need to upload and/or unzip modules.

The trigger on whether or not the module shows in admin is the admin/controller/module/xxx.php file
if that file isn't there, you won't even see an entry for it.

Hi, I am using v1.5.1, I have checked in admin/controller/module., and I could not find any search.php, even though it shows up in Extension > Modules > "Search" Module in admin cp. I can "install" it, but when I click on "Edit", nothing appear.

Please advice. Thanks in advance.

I think I must have uploaded bu accident, sorry.. The search module did not appear in the original installation....
