Hi all,

I have Opencart 1.5.0 running 2 of my webshop www.uk-condoms.co.uk and www.satellitetvshop.co.uk all is working fine and I am very happy with the Opencart system, I have one small question, I need to ship to he UK and to Ireland, these 2 different countries have 2 different VAT rates , the UK is 20% and Ireland is 21%, is there any way I can charge the correct VAT rate based on the customers delivery address ?

At the moment I have all products set at 20% for the UK but if I do a test purchase and login with an Irish postal address the Opencart 1.5.0 system does not display or charge VAT?

Thanks for reading this far and all help is greatly appreciated.

Just define a geo zone including Ireland and define a corresponding rate in your tax class

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, I have set up 2 Taxable zones, Uk zone at 20% and the Ireland zone at 21% but the 21% Ireland rate is not being applied because when all products are assigned a Tax class under Data I am forced to choose one so all are set at 21% for UK shipping, I can see no option to add an Ireland Tax class as well to the same set of products?

I wouldnt even worry about it, because, your doing it wrong anyway

Since ireland is part of the EU, you should be charging UK vat unless they are vat registered, in which case it would be 0% Vat.

You never charge another EU countries vat rate, unless you are registered for VAT in that other EU country. Which i doubt you are.

well, sure he needs to know what kind of tax is eligible to charge... I was technically answer... and technically, you can modify your tax class, adding an additional tax rate. The tax class associated to a product remains one but it applies a different rate according to the specified geo zones
