1.4.9 Why do order numbers not run in order

We see order numbers running in order then missing a few. Am I right in thinking that this is orders that fail at payment stage?

I was looking for a way to track abandoned baskets So how many people put item into basket, how many people go to payment and then I know how many orders I have

everytime your customer hits the confirm page, the order is created. only when he confirms the order, it will show up in your list.

ckonig...is that to confirm the order?

I have just moved over to OC and found that I am missing 'orders' so to speak and it would be far better knowing at what stage the 'order' was abandoned.

Personally I think that if they click confirm order and it uses up an order number then it should show up and then the store owner can see what, where and maybe why.

Without this we are losing vital info about why the customer didn't buy from us and losing details that they may have entered because they have shown an interest in our products.

This is a feature.. it allows you to see abandoned orders and contact the customer about it to try to recover it.
However, it also works negatively in that it makes multiple orders for people who actually did checkout. To prevent that but still get the missing orders for people who actually did stop...
