Coupon Apply in Cart?

I've searched the forums for this one, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer out there.

Has anyone managed to add the "apply coupon" function to the standard 'view cart' page?

The reason being that many customers (like myself), when given a coupon code for use online - want to see if it works before creating an account or progressing further.
(too many times have I had a coupon, added items to cart, had to create an account, then found out the coupon isn't valid).


* I know this is possible, but I'm a bit tied up on a microformats addon, which should appear here soon

Using 1.5.0 coupon on our FREE search gives you enough answers that tell you the same: no (not yet).

I'm on 1.4.8b. Even if 1.5.0 *did* support it, I've just spent the best part of 4 months customising our build (which went live last week) so I don't want to upgrade yet.

Although I might see if I can get 'coupon in cart' working for 1.4.8 and 1.5.0 when I've got some spare dev time


For the time being, I'll just add some "You'll be able to apply your coupon on the next screen" style messages.
