Hi

So numerous searches did not yield any results on this matter.

Where and what do I change if I need to have the confirmation step in checkout and the confirmation mail show prices of the individual products to include tax?

Currently they are shown without tax, which is illegal in Denmark.

I have tried catalog/model/checkout/order.php and catalog/controller/checkout/confirm, but neither have any influence on this it appears

Basically I just need to change the product single unit price and product total (*quantity) to be multiplied by 1.25 (before the currency formating is done), since our VAT is static at 25% and we only deal with one VAT rate

Thanks

Xark,

I haven't used this feature but look in your admin panel under System/Settings/Options for the "Dispaly Price w/ Tax" option. I would assume this will show the products on the site with tax included. I'm not sure if it carries forward to all the pages through checkout or if it breaks it out on the invoice but I would start there.

Good Luck.

My comprehension of the Danish language is insufficient to read the text of the law, but from your posting it appears that you are satisfying the law by displaying the price including VAT on the product description page.

Beyond that, most jurisdictions require that the shopping cart's pre-VAT elements be summed up prior to applying VAT to the entire order. This is to prevent over- or undercharging VAT when the individual item's VAT calculation yields an elemental VAT including a fraction of an øre. If you add up too many fractional øre overages or underages you will end up charging the customer the wrong total VAT.

For example, if you have a product selling for 99.99 Kroner, that product, if sold alone, includes 19.998 Kr VAT. If you sold 20 of this product to a single customer, and simply summed up the price including VAT, you would be overcharging the customer 4 øre. As the shopping cart fills up, the discrepancy between the pre-VAT and post-VAT computation widens.

Simply by reading the way that the VAT is specified, as 25% of net sales (and not as 20% of gross receipts), makes it unambiguous on the surface that the actual VAT must be added to the pre-VAT amount, and that the requirement for the display of the post-VAT price is for the purpose of uniformity across the nation.

The bottom line is this: Does your tax authority make you send them 25% of your net sales or 20% of your gross receipts? The answer to this question will ultimately determine what behavior your online store should mimic.

A nice reply mberlant and one that I would very much like to discuss for fun - however, you dodge my question

Can it be done or not, and if yes, then where? :)

Whats the difference - it should be the same amount if I'm not mistaken?

And for the record, VAT is 20% of our turnover, excluding shipping costs (not packaging).

When dealing retail, all prices must always be displayed including VAT. Only when dealing b2b you need to display unit prices excluding VAT.

And to make your calculation

20 x 99,99 = 1999,80
VAT (25% of the total price) 1999,80 x 0,2 = 399,96

20 x 79,992 (price excluding 25% VAT) = 1599,84
adding VAT = 1599,84 * 1,25 = 1999,80

As I see it, one of us needs their school money back? I can't find those 4 øre you're talking about

Prices are to displayed including VAT and the invoince and orderconfirmation should also display all prices including VAT and display the VAT rate and how much of the total cost the VAT is

TL, DR : Can it be done or not, and if yes, then where? :)

The 4 øre are here:

Ex-Moms value of one piece is 79.99 Kr., not 79.992 Kr., as you cannot deal with a value smaller than one øre.

So, ex-Moms value of 20 pieces is is 1599.80 Kr., not 1599.84 Kr.

And, yes, by the way, I do not believe that any cart actually "thinks" in VAT-inclusive terms. Certainly, OpenCart does not.

simple reason for why opencart adds vat to a product is simple, if the vat rate changes, it only effects the vat amount on a product, not the price of a product., its done this way so the seller doesnt lose out. If it was done the reverse way, everytime the vat amount increased, the seller would lose money. :)

And im pretty sure, that so long as the store shows prices including vat, it makes no difference if the order confirm shows it seperated, in fact its done this way so people can clearly see how much vat they are charge, specially in cases where they can reclaim it.
