just thought i'd should also add how great 1.5 looks. very very modern and clean.

few absolutely minor things...

- footer has borders on top and bottom but not left and right making it look like it's been cut off. also most corners on the site are round but not these.
- would be nicer with a tiny bit more margin at the bottom of the page perphaps another 20px so the opencart sites slihglty off the bottom
- when changing the description to reviews etc would be nicer if it faded quickly rather then just immediate change like here http://www.worldofclean.co.uk/fusion-8-2l.html
- the catgeory list looks amazing but it's confusing me. e.g. desktops says 13 in brackets, i then hover and it shows pc (0) and mac (1)?, then the categories that don't have sub cat look like they should as the right border goes but nothing is there so it looks like it's been cut off.
- i like the drop in box to say if something has been added to cart but i personally pefer success messages to be green, warning to be yellow, errors to be red, but that's just me.
- clicking the coming soon galaxy tab takes you to the opencart galaxy tab homepage ;D took me ages to figure out why my changes had disappeared right in front of my eyes

now my post above looks silly as i thought i'd be playing around with it like i did with previous versions to get my exact design, but tbh with just a few changes this cart will be exactly how i'd want it. great work guys. just have to wait now until it's useable

Having the Shipping estimator and the Discount box on the Cart Page is confusing, I would like to see it on the Checkout page.
You could also have the Shipping estimator "popping-up" as a box module on the right site as soon as there is something on the Cart.

This you could do the same with the Compare module, just a box "popping-up" as soon as there is a product selected to be compaired.
Well I for one would HATE to see the shipping estimator moved to the checkout page!! A customer should be able to see the shipping estimator at cart level so they can work out the true cost of getting the item ordered. I used to run a site that had the shipping estimator on the checkout pages and I used to get approximately 20-30 emails per day asking what the shipping would be as customers are just not prepared to enter any personal details to find out the cost. (We implemented shipping estimator on the cart page instead of the checkout page (1 step earlier) and we now get 0 emails!)

I know a lot of my customers will not even click the checkout link if no postage options are shown at cart level.

A tab system would look nice, offer all the info required and keep things clean.

I have a suggestion on checkout page, GoDaddy checkout page is nice, if you select any step you can open it and modifiy the content, and if you don't fill any of the steps it is marked and opened automatically.
By the way I can't finish checkout process it stops at Step 3: Delivery Details and don't continue I don't know why.

As this is your first post I assume you have no clue on what the procedure is on new releases.

This RC1 will probably followed by a second and maybe a third RC before iwt will be 1.5.0.
This 1.5.0 could still be not ready for production.

So to answer your question: in a month maybe.

Hi All

Keep up the great work. Anyway i was looking to design a template similar to what i have in 1.49x. I realised that just copying the template from the old to the new wasn't going to work. So i made a copy of the new default template, renamed it and put it in the theme folder.

The new template new appears in the admin under the the setting/store option, but when i select it and click save nothing happens. Infact if i go back into the setting/store option it has changed back to default!

Not sure if this is a bug or if i'm missing something that needs changing. Anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

Thanks again

no reason it can't be implemented into the default one then. from my understanding as well as bugs daniel would like to hear ideas on how to improve the design/css/effects etc so just putting it out there that as it's so easy to add then it'd be silly not to as it's a really nice feature.

Got to agree with Asphole on the shipping estimator.

The more prominent the better and the earlier it can be seen by the customer the better.

On my sites nearly all of my customer emails are about the cost in their own currency and the cost of shipping.

On a personal note I will never buy from a site that does not show the shipping cost until after you have either created an account or started the checkout process. As far as I am concerned sites that do this are offering a poor customer experience.

My other point would be why bother having a shipping estimator if it isn't prominent.

darren: got to agree. a shipping estimator is to estimate the shipping cost. if it's at the end it wont be estimating but instead telling you what it is. i haven't seen a seperate page for it though which would be really nice so that customers can find out how much it'll be without being on the basket page

the cart page is getting very cluttered.
A tab display is a good idea if there will be many buttons in the cart. Less is more, but achieving this is not so easy.

A minor thought- as well as moving update/continue/checkout + totals directly under the cart, switch the colours of the less important buttons. So less important buttons ‘recede’ and the customer stays focused on checkout...

I also tried looking at some big e-shops to see what they did. None of them really did a great job of reducing checkout clutter. But a few ideas came up:

- small update/remove links right next to the product quantity box
- Checkout button stands out - often larger/ different colour
- less important buttons can also be plain links

Also, while all showed delivery costs, only 2 stores in my sample used true shipping estimators. This is probably a UK thing, but maybe it’s a good idea to keep the estimator optional, if possible.

A few screenshots of checkout/cart pages I looked at here: http://db.tt/OFZ0KvV

… hope this helps with the cart GUI discussion

i might have misread your post but you saying it doesn't need to be on the page? if you are then i disagree. i think it's very important as shown by many peoples problems with customers in this thread. to say only 2 do it i'd say just shows that opencart is the leading cart not one that's trying to play catch up.

i personally wouldn't buy until i know shipping costs or rough idea, especially if it's smaller purchases which i'd be willing to be will be the case for most opencart owners, the customers will be buying smaller priced one items a few at a time, so when the total is say only £12, £5 delivery is a lot, but if it's say £100+ often then delivery isn't something customers will worry about, but people with those stores i'd guess would chose something with a bit more history.

Just thought I would be nosey, there seems to be a few validation errors:

Not sure if anyone has said this already or if they even matter that much?

Keep up the good work devs!

No indeed: I only meant to distinguish between the full shipping estimator vs. simple delivery costs.

Some will only need a line for delivery costs, and a full estimator might be over the top: so it would be great if the estimator was optional (just my opinion, nothing more). All the stores in my sample showed delivery costs in some form, but it was a tiny sample - not meant to be scientific in any way. :) I've edited my post in case it looks more authoritative than I meant it to.

ah gotcha. make it so it's optional. i was taking it as you meant having it in was optional, so if it was messy then take it out completely as it's not important.

+1 Shipping estimator as early in process as possible, in the cart.

I currently have a Shopify store (watching OC closely as a replacement when I outgrow it). There is no estimator in Shopify so I created a simple, javascript based one, which was not too difficult since my shipping rates are based on order total. Anyways after implementing it, in the shopping cart page, i went from 3 abandoned orders a day to 3 orders a day difference....

Awesome. I was looking on the google code page and I saw that there were only 17 reported bugs left to squash. You guys are really on a roll over there! Thanks so much for that! :)

Can't wait for the next RC! ;D

The new Attributes don't handle accents characters properly. When I want to add a previously created attribute to a product which started with 'Á', it doesn't auto complete and hasn't showed on the product's page. :(
