Hi Subhash,

No this module/extension is still in development, a lot of it is finished but still a bit to go, i really wished this was finished by now but just not had the time to work on it. keep picking away at all my mods but this one is taking the longest.

I have a two day development bonanza tomorrow 25th and 26th November to try and get as many mods finishes or upgraded as possible so will push hard to finish this one, its kind of at the back of the queue as I have clients mods to focus on first.

Will post my status on friday night of how i get on.

oh and the mod will meet all your criteria...

There is a problem with the USPS Module. The buyer, is given the option of, which, method of shipping to use.
That is just the oposite of what is necessary. Only the shipper knows the dimensions and weight of the package and contents used in shipping. USPS offers 10 basic choices based on size, weight and Zip Codes. This turns those 10 choices into an infinte number dollars per item when insurance and other factors are added.
This choice of computing shipping cost after the customer has decided to buy is the only one that works because it is made to order. The present set up is a One size fits all and doesn't work.

I have been selling on line fo20 years and every program has the same problem. I think it is based on repetitive sales not on a variety of products.
I would like to see it changed and a demo offered.
Our site is under construction using OC I am not sure which version.

Hi all,

As promised an update...

Well over the past two days I got my language file editor finished (sort off, beta mode anyway) and all my other live mods updated and made a dent in this one, but it just seems to throw up loads of things I haven't thought about, so keeps adding to the list of things to get done, but I WILL get there, that’s a promise...

As my local clients are happy using my existing ALL OTHER COUNTRIES SHIPPING & PAYMENTS mod with the FREE EDIT SHIPPING IN ADMIN mod, there is no cash to fund this project other than purchases of my other mods, so I am using as much as my free time as I can...but I’ve got a baby son and a wife to keep happy so need to keep food on the table...

JimD, this should be available for 1.4.8 and above as that’s the way i have been developing my mods. And Yes I feel your pain, try telling this to the open cart guys, I know its meant to be bad practice to return to pay but there are a minority out there who do need this, but that’s just it, because they are a minority they don't tend to matter, a shame... but on a brighter note that’s where the developers like me come in to save the day, what day that will be is unknown but it will come...

Firstly, I want to say that I support this module, and that this functionality is 100% necessary for my business to be online. I've trolled the internet exhuastively (reading and posting on forums for zencart, wordpress e-commerce, prestacart, magento, and several others), and have found many people asking for this, but no one finding it. I would also say that there are many antique sellers on ebay who would prefer a situation like OpenCart with Manual Shipping. If I can make this work, I am going to go back to all my threads and advertise this solution.

Now some specific feedback.

I agree with JimD's analysis of the shipping situation. For me the utility of this module comes from my being able to pick a shipping method that works best for the product, me, and the buyer. The number of shipping options is always staggeringly complex, and I believe that it takes a human mind -- not only that, but one who is intimately familar with the territory -- to pick the proper shipping method. Of course, this isn't always the case: most e-commerce involves selling the same products over and over again, and fulfilling orders from a warehouse, it's all totally predictable and well modeled -- and it works just fine the way it is. JimD hit the nail on the head, though, in saying that this breaks down when you're selling a different unique product every time, and it will be packed in a unique manner. Everyone's needs are different, so I know others might see this differently.

In any case, I do think it's important for the customer to have some input in shipping. When buying things online, I don't usually care about all the details. But I care about some of them. For example, I might want to tell the seller "I need it within the week" or "try not to send it FedEx, because they come while I'm at work & won't leave the pkg without a signature". A manual shipping module opens the possibility for the buyer & seller to have a very nuanced interaction. But you don't need much tech to support this -- all you need is for the buyer to be able to enter comments in the checkout form (which I think works out-of-the-box in OC).

As for my own manual shipping needs, I would like to mention one more feature which is very important to me. While many of my products (eg, amps, drums, upright bass) require manual shipping consideration, MANY OF THEM DON'T (eg, sheet music, drum sticks, effects pedals -- I can even guess the shipping for most guitars). What I would like is to be able to determine which products need special shipping consideration, and which don't. Ideally, when I create the produc, there would be a check box that would let me invoke this. But perhaps it could also treat any product with a blank weight & dimensions as a "manual shipping product". Then, at the time of checkout, the system would look at what's in the cart, and evaluate the following:

A) are there any products that require manual shipping assessment?
B) is this order going to a manual shipping zone (for me this would anything outside the "continental US")

If either condition is true, then the order is a manual shipping order. Otherwise, it's a normal checkout, and the buyer can pick a shipping method & pay just like other e-commerce sites.

Lastly, I would like to thank you Davy for your dedicated work. I'm sure ultimately this only a hobby for you, but you seem to understand that it makes real & concrete difference for other folks. As I said above, this functionality is essential for getting this business online. If I hadn't found this project, I would be trying estimating the cost of outsourcing this coding to India. It's not a solution that I'm happy with politically, but I can't afford to pay an American to code this. For this reason, I'm more than happy to pay solid money (be it $40 or $100 or $200) into a crowdsourced solution for a solid product. It's worth a lot to me that the developer is dedicated and involved with a project -- ultimately a lot more than I can pay for, sadly.

Thanks for the kind comments snackd,

I do believe there is a need for this extension, but to all that don't already know, this project was shelved for the moment to allow me to work on local work to pay the bills. Unfortunately that’s the way of the world and to be honest it didn't get the support I was hoping for.

I do wish I had time for this but just to big for the little time I have to work on opencart, and although I say little time, I sometimes spend 2 days a week working on Opencart projects, usually for local clients though, but when I’m busy I’m lucky to get 1 night a week at it, but that’s life.

Maybe if there was more support I could push this one but until then, thats all folks...

Most probably heavy trucks are used for vehicle transport and the truck drivers are the savior of your cars because they only strive to save your car from damages and other hazards. Next thing is most of the companies have the experienced and professional drivers who take care of the car properly.

Maybe Jim feels like its been 20 years, I have been in the I.T. industry for over 10 years and sometimes it feels like double that :)

I just wanted to say I have been searching for hours and hours to find an extension such as this, I only wish it was available now as I would love to launch my site by the end of the week but am struggling with shipping. I have one supplier that only couriers directly to the customer due to size and weight of their products, a similar situation with another supplier and I also carry stock that I send through Australia post.

I have no idea how to deal with customers who wish to purchase an item but have to email me to obtain a shipping price then I some how have to try to manually input a shipping price - dont know if this can even be done :(

I honestly dont know how to launch my site with this shipping issue except to charge a flat rate and hope that it averages out so I dont lose too much on shipping, but I can see this working against me with those getting a good deal on shipping buying through my store and those not ,going elsewhere.

I would be happy to pay for your extension as it is the solution I need for my current structure. Please let us know if and when you get this up and running, it really is a great extension!

I am looking for the option for quoting freight on all products in Australia. Would All Other Countries (Shipping & Payment) module do this?

Thanks

Davy, you said you were planning on updating this after OC1.5 was released. Any movement on this, now that OC1.5 is out?
