Flash Question

I am interested to know would it be possible for me to insert a flash movie on the front page of the store  just showing sample products and then if they want to browse they click a tab for products? i like the look of open cart but i'd like to be able to rip it apart. could u make a short list of areas that are commonly editable.

You can rip Open Cart apart in all areas. The whole of Open Cart is editable/modifiable
It is Open Source so you can do to it whatever you like. The only limitation is your skills

Maybe you should modify the layout.tpl file, from you theme folder and just add the code to display de flash movie.

That's not the file you want.
You want to edit template/default/content/home.tpl
