Hi guys, hope you can help.

I have opencart 1.4.9.1 installed nicely on a VPS server. Has PHP 5, apache and Mysql. runs linux no sweat. (LAMP server - so there's no control panel so to speak, I am in control of the software on that server as I get an SSH prompt easily)

Problem is I've tried everything to get the email to work.

Nothing happens, I have it set to my BT internet SMTP and nothing happens (by nothing happens I mean OC says it sent but no mail delivered thats on the forgot password screen, account creation etc etc). tried swapping to MAIL again nothing happened so tried using gmail again nothing happened. tried using gmail on SMTP mode and something does appear to happen (site takes longer to load the sent successful page), but again no email received.

So now I am confused somewhat, any help on this would be greatly appreciated

I did search this site but found nothing, apologies if this has already been covered.

I'm finding the same problem. I'm 3 days into developing site for a client and find that the email function doesn't even work.

No email is sent through the contact form or when an order is placed. I even put an email in the "alert" box on the "mail" tab for additional emails and still nothing. The customer gets email just fine. And the 2 tests I did for the newsletter nothing was received either.

I've gone through several threads but the only one I see that someone says worked for them was installing another php mailer.

Anyone find a definitive solution to this? Seems its been an issue since version 1.2.

There's got to be someone that knows a solution.

Can't believe open cart is as popular as it is with one of the main functions not working. I'm am loving working within open cart but it is useless without an email function.

Just in case there is some similarities, I'm using hostgator as my host company.

Maybe those of us that are having problems are using similar hosts? Not sure, but maybe it would help if we posted what kind of server/host we are on.

Okay, I just did an email trace and got this message back:

"virtual_aliases via virtual_aliases router forced address failure"

For those whose email function works are you using the same email address that your website is on? Or an outside/third party address?

I ask because the test address I put into the email field in settings is on another server. Does that make a difference?

Maybe I'll try it with a server based email address.

(hate to use this thread like a blog, I feel like I'm talking to myself.... but I'm just trying to make a log of possibilities in case anyone else has the same problem)

Oh my gosh! That was it! Solved!

I just made a new email address that is server based ( myname @ mywebsite . com), and now get emails from contact form AND for orders.

Can't believe it was something so simple.

So for those of you who the email function doesn't work, is probably those who have outside email addresses. (at least for some of you)

Hope this helps someone!!

(I feel relieved and very very smart right now :)

Yup, that's one thing... but I am facing different problem.

When someone make new registration he/she gets email with confirmation, but when new order is completed, email with data is not send.

I checked all settings in Admin but no luck.

Then I set up new webstore, copied template and translations, set everything the same as I set on my main webpage and things are working like a charm. I really don/t know what could be wrong on my page...

Maybe something went wrong when we updated from 1.4 to 1.4.9 because in past everything was working fine. Now I am using 1.4.9.3 the same as my test webstore - only difference is that I set up this "test" webstore from 1.4.9 clean install.

Can some give me a hint what could be wrong here?

Best to all of you!

Hi!

thank you for your help.
Unfortunately somewhere must be something wrong with code.
I set up new webstore where I used the same settings (the same e-mail address, same SMTP port, everything is set on the same server, using the same domain) as on my old one and there I get email, but on the old webstore I don't.

Can some one please tell me which files are used for sending out email when new order is completed.
I check file system-library-mail.php and it's flawless...

All the best!

Try the system/library/mail.php file from 1493. It fixed some mail issues

Hello Q!

Thanks for your reply, but 1493 mail.php doesn't fix the problem I have.

There must be probably something else related to some files or DB. I really don't know.

I get mail when someone register new account, but newer when new purchase is made...

Hello all, it's been a while...

Well I finally managed my problem with e-mail notifications when new user register account or new order is made

Problem was with my hosting.

Apparently my website was on different server than mail server :/
So after they fixed DNS records and all the rest, e-mail notifications start coming to me and customers.

Now I have different question if someone can help me;
When customers send me question via contact form I get them as plain text, the same as when I update status of order and send notification to customer.

Is there any possibility to change text to HTML?
