Yes it will. It will be a set of database queries that someone will have available before the dust has even settled. Stop teasing.

There you have it.. mystifier is working on a set of db queries to make it work. All upgrade questions about 1.5.0 product options can go directly to him

Qphoria wrote: Options are now global, which means instead of there being an "product_option" table and "order_option" table
There is going to be a "product_to_option" table and an option_to_option_value table.

Options will no longer map to an individual product, instead they will only link by id in a pool. So I'm trying to figure a way to take the individual product options and merge them into the global options design.. and me thinks it will be impossible. But the global options will be much better in the long run in many opinions... so it might be something we have to live with. So upgrades from 1.4.x to 1.5.0 will likely blow away all product options.
Global options seems like a great idea - I wouldn't have to keep creating similar options again and again...however, how do we address the issue of option pricing? If I want to take advantage of having Red and Blue as options, then the price addition of Red for T-Shirts may be different from the price addition of Red for Shorts....

I suspect you will tell me to use Red Shorts and Red TShirts as the options...but then I loose the advantage I am supposed to get from global options.... ???

Or can the option price still be a product-specific value even as options themselves become global?

As a simple measure, it would be extremely useful to have customer fields Custom1, Custom2, Custom3 with a show/hide boolean. This would cater for most needs without anything more sophisticated by simply changing the language file. It is a bit of a pain adding an extra field as I have had to do.

The same would be true of products where one of the most useful fields is `location`because it is the easiest to hijack :)

I was intending to add an 'Addition Fields' free extension when I did it but my create and edit files were already hacked so I didn't bother.

Daniel should put an automated new year's countdown so 1.5.0 is released 01/01/11 at 00:00:01.

that's not the roadmap that's just a list that one of the mods created of every request. Just because something is on that list doesn't mean it will be in 1.5

The problem with this is that customer fields tend to be used throughout the system.
Even something as simple as added the salutation...
You have to:
1. Add it to the create form
2. Add it to the address change form
3. Add the display to the payment page
4. Add the display to the shipping page
5. Add the display to the confirm page
6. Add it to the order create function
7. Add it to the order email
8. Add it to the admin order page
9. Add it to the customer database, address database, and order database

So that makes it difficult to just add dynamic fields.

Mystifier may be right in that a few static custom fields could be created and that should satisfy most, but we'll see what we can do

1.5 is going to have user configurable additional product text fields, so you can create all those types of fields you want.
