how to 'hide' my site if I'm doing maintenances to my cart?

v1.4.9.1
clean install

I’m a noob to opencart. Just created my opencart thru softaculous.
How do I hide my site so that the public will not see my incomplete site if I am doing some updates/ maintenances?

Did you know you can go the system/settings/server tab and choose maintenance mode? if you are logged in as admin you can still see the site but customers see a maintenance message.
