Hi All,
I am new to opencart, but have used/played with many cart programs.
My Problem (& I have only found one cart that I can do this with FWS)
We sell books (don't ask why we don't use weight, as I'm sick of asking for the weights!!) anyway each book has 4 possible shipping rates 1, Royal Mail Parcel post (UK Only). 2, Special Delivery (UK Only). 3, EU inc Eire. 4, Rest of World.

Now each book has a different rate depending on size and weight, at the moment I use a pop up for each book.

oscommerce was unable to resolve this for me but in FWS I can use this code as an item option....
Feature1:Value1,Value2,Value3|Feature2:Value1,Value2,Value3,Value4
so I use it like this... "Shipping:Royal Mail (UK Only)+4.50,Special Delivery (UK Only)+8.80....etc, etc

This works brill, why can't this be included in OC? OC like commerce is much more sophisticated than FWS but at the end of the day there all php.....
I'm not a programmer but I can follow what goes on within the code & I'm sure this would be easy peasy for someone who works with PHP.....

Regards
Ken

Not quite sure what this shows.. are you saying for each product you add to the cart, you have to choose individual shipping?

So book 1 has 4 options:
Rate 1: 5.00
Rate 2: 7.00
Rate 3: 3.00
Rate 4: 8.00

book 2 has 4 options
Rate 1: 5.52
Rate 2: 6.45
Rate 3: 7.14
Rate 4: 9.25

If you buy both books then the total shipping is the 2 shipping rates added together?

correct, but 99.9% only choose one book as these are specialist books & very expensive.....
In the case where someone wanted more than 1 there is a link for a price & we supply wholesale anyway (seperate site).
The postage rates are exactly as displayed in the pictures...

book 1
rate 1 = £3.50
rate 2 = £7.00
rate 3 = £6.25
rate 4 = £11.50

book 2
rate 1 = £4.50
rate 2 = £8.80
rate 3 = £11.50
rate 4 = £22.50

So in theory if someone from US wanted both books his postage would be £34.00, but as I said it proberbly would not happen....(well not yet anyway & we have been selling online for 10 years....

I would make an option called shipping then and they could choose it at the product option level

Then just enable Free shipping but change the title to "Priced by Product"

That's exactly what I've been trying to achive for the last two days....just can't get my head around the options section, I either get everything selected or nothing selected except the text.
Do I select 1 main option with 4 rates? not sure I have tried that....

Is there a way that the system would detect which zone the customer is at so that the appropriate zone will only be shown?

It is a bug only with IE7&8 I guess.. I've heard about it but never saw it myself as I never use that browser.. But the options form will be redesigned in 1.5.0 anyway
