Install French language

Hello!!
I've download the french language.
I've copy the 2 folders catalog\language\french\controller and catalog\language\french\extension

When I return on the web site, on administrator, I go on Language and click on Insert. But when I write the informations and save, i have that :  * Language Code must be greater than 2 and less than 5 characters! But, I wrote fr, so 2 characters.

Somebody can help me please?
