ok im not a developer or a designer
ive used both opencart and prestashop, only for a week or two in the last 2 years
why should i use opncart instead of others ?
opencart has a better back end its easier to use for me
the development has picked up slightly but as far as i can tell there only 2 people developing
opencart has some good feature but prestashop also has some good ones
opencart does not have many people developing mods or themes for it
no built in goggle checkout
and the themes are all the same except for colour
I just want some info to make my mind up, from people who had the same problem
why opencart over others

i'm not sure about this, if you have deeps knowledge about css and xhtml you can create many various themes as you like. and i agree OC still the 1st and top free ecommerce across the others, that's why i am here now and left others behindkingx wrote: and the themes are all the same except for colour

and you will find the different one with the future version perhaps start 1.5.0 so on, just wait it.
id like to wait but i dont know how long it would take,
prestashop seems to have a lot more feature opencart is still lacking

there's only like two or three things on that list that opencart doesn't have.kingx wrote:id like to wait but i dont know how long it would take,

In terms of features, where things appear on those lists that aren't currently in OpenCart, I think they are are all listed to come in 1.5. In my opinion OpenCart is developing and growing very well.
To me magento feels very bulky. TomatoCart I find the back-end very odd to work with..it looks like Vista, which can't be a good thing
nopCommerce does look decent but why is there a fee charged to remove the branding?

WhiteBirch - Premium OpenCart Templates on ThemeForest
Skylight - Our first OpenCart 1.4.9.1 template!
Darkwood - Stylish new OpenCart 1.4.9.1 template!
I think you already had answer your question, - on half may be.
If opencart is not good enough, you must used prestashop on both site.
If opencart is so good over the other, you must be used opencart on both site.
Just like what you say, - if you can detail it more - what prestashop good feature that should be in the core?
Is it already on 1.5.0 roadmap? if yes, than wait. If not, than make a proposal and why its so important in the core, help your self by help the dev team to make decision. Including donations.. lol..
Opencart develop is so fast, with lack of official documentation. When we found new feature and try to make as standar feature in commercial theme, then the new release is come. And -from what i read- its sometime break the theme for erlier version. And i think the same is happen to module develop.
But, for me, opencart had promising future.. Someday, Opencart feature is as good as other, even better. When in that time the documentation also good (for both end-user and dev), then opencart users will rising. If there is lot of demand, there will be lot of quality supply.
Regards,

OpenCart 1.5.0 will be out this month.
As for the feature lists, well There are a lot of features that OpenCart has that I have not included in the list of features on the main site. There are just to many to mention. It gets boring for people to read massive feature lists.
Magento
Very buggy slow shopping cart system. You need a dedicated server just to get it running properly. It has lots of features but I find it was missing stuff like Instead of having a admin interface for setting shipping options instead you have to upload excel spread sheets. Also the last company I worked for used Magento for 1 project and it took 9 hours to correct a bug with google checkouk.
Prestashop
Very good shopping cart system but lacks the MVC structure and is not as easy to code for as OpenCart. I would say it is level with OC as they have some features OC and visa versa. Also the extensions are very limited. There are only a free free extensions and the paid for ohnes cost a forutune. Most are around 200 Euros compare to opencarts 25 Euros.
TomatoCart
New to the scene but very buggy and the admin interface is a complete mess. I believe it lacks quite a few features that opencart has. Try adding a new admin page and you could spend ages creating all the windows that are required desktop interface effects that are required.
nopCommerce
Well I don't need to say much because its ASP. you have to use windows as your web server which is slow buggy and very hackable. Also you have to pay all the licensing fees for the web server. Not very good if you want to run free software.

templates will need to be updated. This is not a big issue for template designers. should take them a few hours to convert it over depending how much they have changed things.kingx wrote:Thamks Daniel

it should not cost an arm and a leg. find some freelancer and offer them £50 GBP.kingx wrote:will this problem be fix in this future?
I know its not a big problem, but most developers near me are not very helpful, most of them would charge me to fix the template, or charge a arm and a leg to start with
its not a major issue. what do people expect. some of the new features will need to be accounted for in template files. there is no way around this. its not a problem that can be fixed in future. all the other carts and php scripts have this problem. this should be obvious to anyone. yet you decided its a bug that needs fixing in future versions.

It does not matter how many people are developing the other carts. I can develop freatures quicker than teams of people and keep all the coding the same standard. It does not matter if you have a team of developers. you need a team of developers that have years of experiance with developing ecommerce to beat the features I can add in that are coded in such a way that they are easy for other developers to understand and modify.kingx wrote: opencart has a better back end its easier to use for me

I spent years using oscommerce adding stuff like seo urls, affliate systems, user tracking etc..
Are you kidding me? this is why I think you have just come on the forum to cause trouble and be-little the project. you can clearly see in the extension section that there are 100's of extensions. over 600. with about 2 to 3 being added every day.kingx wrote: opencart does not have many people developing mods or themes for it

As for themes being the same colour have you looked ones like this:
http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route ... &order=ASC
you can also view the live shop section with some very unique looking designs where you can not even tell its opencart underneath.

Im not here to cause trouble or be-little the project. im here to help solve one question, why use opencart over others
This is the biggest reason to consider opencart, there's loads of features, with a lot more getting added, development has picked up and is moving nicely,
we the users can suggest extensions or core features,
I only opened this Threads last night and ive got this may reply's,
ive had good reply from the developers themselves, how many other company's would do that and be able to back what they say,
Ive used it, its simple lite but has most thing you need, and the rest is getting added, the back end clean and easy to use,
ive compared it to the other and I choose it over the others
thumbs up to opencart
also major upgrades for every ecommerce break the themes. Being able to make mods and themes without having to worry about updates breaking them was one of magento's bigest things they were touting when it was released, but that has just not happened. every major version released has broken most theme's and many addons.
