Best way is to make sure they invoice you without VAT. I deal with companies in France and Spain and they are fine with it once they have my VAT number.
No mucking about that way as you don't need to claim anything back.
This is true, however by law, you should be submitting a VAT Puchase List, from those countries with every vat return, thats if your buying goods for re-sale in the uk.
I understand, that adding vat to the item, then deducting it from your vat return, makes no difference in terms of paying/reclaiming vat, however the fatcats at HMRC still want it done this way, dont ask me why lol
Its a good point to note, that so long as another eu country has your vat number, they wont add their vat on to the item, if they dont have it, they will, and then you have to be registered for vat in their own country to claim it back, so if we are going to recreate a distributor list with details of vat numbers etc, its a good point to note, that you may need an option for each product, which asks whether vat @ country of purchase was added or not, because if it was, then you have to include it in your accounts as the gross amount to be taxed, not the net amount.
