do you have a control panel? if so look at exactly what the username and db name is. normally if its shared it will have a prefix on the username and database. Thank you Daniel. I'm on virtual dedicated hosting though so I'm not sharing with anyone. I ended up reinstalling and trying a new password...

Thanks for the reply Daniel.
I'm using a virtual dedicated server, so it would be localhost.
I have a feeling it has to do with the password I selected.
Does OpenCart have issues with special characters in the password ($>*%)?
