well, i did it by just clicking the link, as you showed it above, and it produces the same error on all Journal test Pages. Yeah for some reason the cart module is hardcoded and styled in cart.php (controller/module/cart/php) You have to edit the code there as well.

All redirection is declared by $this->redirect(... ...) in controller. Remove the line you need and the page will not redirected. Yes, basically stay on the current page after you login. Like www.vimeo.com
The login box comes at you in a thickbox and after you log in it stay on the current page.
Just like the add to cart in opencart. It adds the products to cart but doesn't redirect anywhere.
