Products - related items

Can someone assist with the following problem. Just been informed that when clicking the related items tab on a product page that a fault occurs with the error shown as Notice: Undefined index: quantity in catalog/view/theme/default/template/product/product.tpl on line 316 does anybody know what cause this and how it can be fixed
