I am looking for a way to calculate shipping based on item (and quantity of that item), based a flat rate of that item. And I want that amount to be part of the invoice but not actually require interfacing with UPS, USPS or any other shipper. Shipping is actually done outside of OC, such as actually taking to the Post Office.

Is there a way I haven't yet discovered?

Does flat rate shipping Extensions->Payments->Flat Rate not work for you?

As I understand it, that is one flat rate no matter the product nor the number of each. And that's part of what I need

Are you trying to keep the record keeping as accurate as you can? If you're not worried about that, why no just add the cost of shipping to your item. That way you won't have to worry about this.

However what you are requesting is a modification to the database structure so that you'd have one more input field for each product to add a different amount to the shipping. This is not a hard job per se, but would take a developer to work on it. You have to modify the database. Add a function in your model to handle the new information (eg update remove add). Then have the controller pass the information to the view.

All of this is just time and money spent so if you don't mind that you could put in a request in
Commercial Contributions

You might get some help there.

Otherwise I would just add the cost of shipping to my item totals and have to deal with the bookeeping myself.

My 2cents.

Let me know if that helps.

I'm migrating from CommerceCGI which I have used for years and years. It allowed for the shipping method I described.

Essentially, I had flat rate shipping methods based on weight. For example, Item A weighs 1 lbs. Shipping that item(s) via Priority Mail was always a flat X dollars. If that same item was shipped internationally, then the customer selected an international rate, which was also a flat rate based on weight. And if they ordered one of item X (which weighs 1 lb) and 2 of item Y (each of which weighs .25 lbs), the system would ship based on 1.5 pounds. The customer was sent an email with the cost of the itemized item(s) cost, the shipping charge and the total charge. The admin (me) was also sent an email with that info and I manually create the invoice (outside of the shopping cart) and take care of shipping (based on the system generated charge)

I can't find anything similar in OC

Yes this feature does not currently exist in OC. Sorry :( There might be a mod out there but I haven't seen one like that.

I was afraid of that. I'm actually running AceShop (JoomAce) as the new site I'm developing is being done with Joomla.

My website really isn't online commerce centric as it is a site for my business but we do manufacture and sell products, but only a handful of them. I may just continue on with CommerceCGI but I really like the advantages that OC gives but shipping problem is a game killer for me.

Thanks for the input, it's appreciated

You can always ask a developer how much that'd cost to make.

Cheers with your venture! PM me if you find something out there. I'd be interested in it. If you get started on something I'd be happy to provide input as well. Either way.
