I think it would be beneficial to remove the member registration to check out.
Our checkout processes requires a visitor to register as a new member before they begin the actual checkout process. This stalls a visitor from buying once they make the decision to do so. Instead we should offer the customer the opportunity to register after the sale is complete. Since we have their personal information from the purchase, we can pre-fill in some of their info for them.
Also, a progress indicator on the checkout menus would be nice too.
Just my 2 cents, JO

If you make it idiot proof, they will just build a better idiot.
The only problem I can see with that is people filling in false email address/etc to prevent you from fully identifying them. There in lies a problem as your effectively using their email address as a form of verification for their identity prior to the cart being allowed to go through to checkout.
But on that same note, I would suggest that there be a verification email option, allowing you to specify that they have to verify their account via a link or code sent to their email address before they can start purchasing with their account. Also a nice little security image to prevent automated signup/contact for submissions. so far over 300 robots have joined as "Customers" and it's a pain to remove them every day. Let alone the 15+ emails an hour I'm getting offering me a bigger, better penis lmao. all this from the forms on opencart-extras.com.
Just my 2 cents though

You are on the money with the security image David. If your forums had this feature, you could whitelist the email addresses that humans register with and avoid that source of spam.
A security image should also be part of the opencart signon. I am looking to implement just such a thing... soonish.
I like the current work flow. I believe that post registration may be more of an impediment in these days of internet scams. I personally, would not make a payment for a sale before registering. It would seem too much like giving my money away.

Bruce,
I have some security image generation code that generates an encrypted string, Let me know if you'd like it to look at and it's yours!

I see your point when it comes to securing a good email address prior to doing business. However, When shopping online I like to have the option to buy something without having to set up an account first. There are defiantly pros and cons on both sides of this
Maybe it would be wise to allow the cart owners to decide for themselves and Open Cart could adapt either way.
The verification image would be a nice thing to have.
