I realize that affiliate program requires a signup and has a separate signup page. Does this mean that if a registered customer wants to become an affiliate then within the same shop (s)he has to create another, additional (affiliate) account?

Yup. I tried it. A logged in customers seems to have to create a brand new account. I even tried using customer login on the affiliate authentication page. Didn't work.

Couldn't believe my eyes. So decided to ask, in case I am missing something.

My guess is that this is on purpose.

To keep things separated.

If on purpose, then a terrible idea from user-perspective. Already, if a site using Drupal/WordPress/phpBB/menalto or something adds a shop, then separate logins are required for each piece, which is bad enough. Now, separate logins for same piece of software too?

I would have imagined that a flag in customer table to mark the customer as affiliate would have done the trick...

Bump!

This is a critical overhaul needed for affiliate program. Affiliates should be marked in customer table, not asked to create additional accounts.

I agree that it would be better if it were easier for registered customers to become affiliates. Daniel might not see the suggestion here, so might need to be posted somewhere else... Is there a "Feature Request" thread?

I heart cmd-f, cmd-c, cmd-v, cmd-z + vQmod.
My favourite page...
