Hi all,

It was good to stumble upon opencart on the web as it seemed simple to setup and customize. Simple is good, so is open source.

So I just configured my opencart to look as I want it, and was looking into how to set up payment options, which I (perhaps wrongly) assumed would live up to the rest of the opencart experience.

I've read a number of the threads here on the forum, and am sad to conclude, that as far as payment options are concerned my project seems to fall. There seems to be a lot of threads about that, and many of them remain without conclusion, though the inquiries are of a basic and simple nature. So either the forum is not used widely or there is indeed a problem with this side of things (payment options and implementing them) or both. My instinct tells me it is both, and that this project is in too early a stage for me to embark on.

I open this thread to hear if I have got the whole thing wrong due to my ignorance (having limited experience in setting up carts) or if someone could reassure me on this matter, in which case some practical advice as to how to set up this crucial part of the project would be greatly appreciated.

:o

What payment system(s) are you trying to setup? I have setup Paypal Fine on several stores and it works a treat.

Unfortunately Pay Pal is the only option which Open Cart currently supports out of the box. "There is a Protx gateway module, but I haven't tested to see if it works".

If everything else about open cart is to your liking, why not give it a shot?  ;) v.80 is going to drop soon and I would imagine that once it does we may see a few new payment modules surfacing.

IMHO -JO

If you make it idiot proof, they will just build a better idiot.

Thanks JohnnyO and david.gilbert for your fast response...

Yes paypal is fine if that works well. The fact that it works well for you david.gilbert gives me some hope. There are many people, however, having problems on the forums with all kinds of things in that regard. And these issues seem to remain unresolved in many instances. The problems they have are not comforting.

Also opencart is not listed among the 200+ carts whose integration is certified by paypal. That would be a great thing to happen, also in terms of spreading the word, as  a means of marketing opencart to a broader audience, hopefully many coders. To the non-hard core coders it would make them less cautious of joining the project.

Anyway, I might give it a go, especially if you think JohnnyO, that v.8.0 is coming soon with improved implementation on the payment side.

If I manage all well, I shall try to make something in writing about setting the paypal thing up, as there seems to be no How To for that. I'll make a search on the forums and try to piece it all together. However, if any reading this think they can come up with a basic how to as to what the paypal process implies it shall be received with enormous gratitude.

:)
