Upgrade from 0.7.7

I have an install of 0.7.7 and have customized some of the core files and want to updated to latest version.
So I assume I DON'T want to try & upgrade my current install. It would be much better probably to just do a clean install of the latest version, update the template to get it look the I want and then export my products and re-import into the newer install?

Is that correct? I figured I would run into too many issues trying to upgrade based on some of the other posts I have read and I am not such a great coder.

I haven't tried yet but I figured I could use the import/export mod on both the old & new install. I am thinking that the xls export from the older version will not match and import to the newer install. But once I get my photos uploaded to the correct folder I should be able to copy & paste cells from the older xls into another from the newer install and should be able to import my products that way.

Sound about right or is there an easier way?

There is no way to upgrade from 0.x to 1.x so yea you would have to start fresh. There is also no 0.x to 1.x conversion tool for products and customers yet... but I have a store that I might be looking to update soon so I maybe need to make one.. but don't hold your breath on me.
