Need help Updating and general troubleshooting.

Hey guys, thanks in advance for any help and please feel free to contact me if you think you can help and how much you would want in return.

My website designer installed open cart on my site after Zen-Cart kept screwing up. It has had some of the similar problems I was having with ZC, but overall, I like this a lot better, but need to get the site updated to a newer version and some problems solved.

Here are my issues:

1) There isn't and never has been a "Search" option on my site.

2) When receiving payments, there is no description of what the customer ordered, just an order number that I can't reference. Also Paypal when receiving the payment is not receiving the customers information (Address, contact info, what they ordered)

3) General coupons don't work on my site when the customers are checking out.

Also, if I download the newest version of OC, will it wipe my site clean? I have no problem going through and re-submitting products, etc, I just don't want to wipe out the design of the site, etc.

I have below average web-site design skills, but am a quick learner, was just hoping someone could get me started fresh. Thanks!
