Integrating AvaTax with Opencart

I am not sure if this is the perfect place to ask this question, but I am trying to integrate AvaTax with opencart. I can probably use the SDK that Avalara provides to do it, but I was wondering if there is a simpler way to do this - an extension perhaps? Or even any hints/people with experience to walk me through it?
