How to show product discount?

When listing a product, there is a tab for 'discount'. When I apply a discount, the discounted amount (10%) does not show up in the initial category listing making the customer unaware that the item is on sale. Upon adding the item to the cart, the discount is then shown on the cart page.
Is there a way for this discount to show up in the initial listing so the customer knows that the item is on sale?
