Subdomain with independent opencart install?

I've been searching the forum and couldn't find an answer to this, or at least only bits and pieces that I am not able to put together using my amateur knowledge..

What I am thinking is to have a subdomain (tw.mystore.com) under my main domain (http://www.mystore.com) but with a complete separate opencart install in a subfolder (http://www.mystore.com/tw) - basically a subdomain for each different country that points to its own subfolder that has its own opencart install. Is this doable/is this a messy idea?

I tried to simply install the additional language but found that it wasn't working so well with all the vqmods i have installed and i have no idea how to create multiple languages for a vqmod (can someone point me to a thread that might explain how to do this? i couldnt find it myself), and I noticed that I can't really have 2 languages for product titles so I just thought I should do a complete different install of opencart tailored to the other language. HOwever, I still want it under the main domain so I thought I could create a subdomain that points to a subfolder of the main domain but I don't know to do this..... Help! :)

P.S. does creating a subdomain equate to creating a whole new domain that i would have to buy from my webhost?

It's doable, but it's going to be a pain in the backside to manage all those different installations.

Typically not, but you should check with your host. Most host allow for unlimited subdomains.

Hi
All of our hosting plans allow for subdomains (i.e. anything.yourdomain) as well as add-on domains (i.e. separate domains) within the same hosting plan.

This would allow you to install a separate version of opencart for each subdomain and/or add-on domain, depending on your specific requirements

Any questions, feel free to ask

Creating a sub-domain does not mean you need to buy a new domain name, but if you are using an SSL you will have to use a wildcard SSL (wildcard SSLs cover sub-domains, whereas standard SSLs do not).

My main concern about your approach is maintenance and upgrades. By having several OC installs, you are multiplying your work when it comes to adding modules and especially version upgrades.

Most importantly though, you are also multiplying your work for product updates and if you require stock control across all different installs, this will require further work to sync the shops and could lead to problems at busy times when items sell out.

I would have thought that either multi-language or a multi-shop set-up would work better for what you need.

But to answer your question how you set up a sub-domain, this depends on your control panel and your current hosting provider would be best placed to advise you on this.

Have you considered organizing the language packs in subdirectories (or subfolders) instead of using subdomains ? In terms of SEO, it's a good compromise for multilingual sites.

I did download a language pack that i then installed, but as soon as i did that error messages came up for an email subscribe vqmod that i installed, which i assumed is because it doesn't support multiple languages. On top of that i realized the product titles are all still in English, and i have no idea how to have them translated since i dont think there is an option to do that on the admin side (am i right?).

I would love to just have language packs and make this all easier, but can somebody explain briefly what i would have to do to create the additional language for each and one of my vqmods, and tell me how i could solve the english product title problem?
