Getting Individual Product Options To Display 'Out Of Stock'

Okay,
When a particular product option is out of stock, that option is removed from product.tpl.
However I'm interested in keeping it in place but showing it as out of stock in a similar fashion to this
It doesn't have to be image based but I would like to be able to show a size as being out of stock.
