Currently using OC 1.4.9.5 and under Extensions for payments we see PayPal Standard and Pro.

PayPal has recently released a new system called "Payments Advanced"

It's more than "Standard" but less than "Pro" and currently only 4 Carts/Storefronts have it intergrated.

Based on my conversation with PayPal it uses Iframes and would need to be intergrated with OC. It keeps the customer on your site (unlike PP Standard) (morelike Pro) but there is no need for an SSL cert as it actually reside on PP server.

Seems to be very interesting and the monthly fee is only $5 vs $30 for Pro.

Anyone looked into this like one of our great developers or intergraters?

We recently downgraded from Pro to Standard to save a few buck.

Thanks, would love to see this new product available for 1.4.9.5

I received word from Qphoria that he is looking into it. I am standing in line to purchase the first mod that he pushes out using the Advanced version. ;D

Yes I've already started on it and just finishing it up.. Paypal can be very confusing sometimes and one demo shows it works one way and another shows another way so I hope to have it done this week.

This sounds great.

Will this eliminate the issues with paypal standard where a customer enters a shipping address in the opencart checkout process that is different than the paypal registered shipping address? This is currently a big problem for those of us using batch printing postage software that does not integrate with opencart. All orders must be imported from paypal and double checked against the opencart shipping address and manually changed if necessary.

Hoping it will allow the customer to only enter a single shipping address during the checkout process, so when batch printing orders from paypal, there is no concern of having an incorrect shipping address

Thanks!

Just FYI.. some of the people asking about this are from outside the USA
According to their site:
U.S. fees
The prices listed are for PayPal Payments Advanced only. They do not include fees for added services like recurring billing.
Set-up fee: $0
Monthly fee: $5
Per transaction fee: 2.2%-2.9% of transaction amount, plus $0.30/transaction. Fees depend on monthly sales volume.
These prices apply to domestic payments in US Dollars. For more details, see www.paypal.com/advanced.
International availability and fees

Currently, PayPal Payments Advanced is available in the US only.
So be aware this is only for people in the USA at this time.

Thanks Q for all your work.

I do have 1 question...When completed, will we be ablw to use your "PayPal Advanced" on OC v 1.4.9.5 or are you only building interface for v1.5 ?

Secondly, users should be reminded, according to PayPal website you must "Apply" and be "Approved" to use "Advanced" just like "PayPal Pro" if they only have a regular PayPal Account. If you have already been approved for "Pro" then you should be set to go with "Advanced".

BGS

P.S. Love the Teaser

I had thought about dropping 1.4.x support in newer modules... starting with this one.... tho I guess I could be bothered to add 1.4.x support

I talked with a paypal advanced representative and it looks like this will still be an issue for those of using batch printing postage software which will only import from paypal. Bummer.

Still need to figure this one out.

I've applied for the Payments Advanced. Looking forward to this new feature.

Just a thought here but I have been using a service from Consolibyte to push my OC orders to Quickbooks. I know QB has a postage printing function built in so this could be printed from QB using the actual shipping address from the OC orders. Keith at Consolibyte is awesome at tailoring the data that is transferred to QB and can create a custom integration based on each user. It's $10 per month but it sure beats rekeying the orders and you won't have to worry about things getting mis-keyed.

So the problem in paypal standard is that paypal over validates too much on the shipping address being passed in. There is an address override flag but when override is enabled, if the address has a spacing discrepancy, or paypal just doesn't know how to handle it, paypal gives a cryptic error about "contact the merchant about invalid parameters" or something, instead of a proper error like "Your address could not be verified, would you still like to use this address?"

Paypal Advanced however doesn't have this issue that I can see because you never leave your site to go to their site. The address and stuff is set directly on your site and sent as part of the SecureToken retrieval, so any errors about address would likely be caught there. Plus is offers proper AVS options for light, medium, and high, so you can limit chance of error there. There is no place to change your shipping address so I don't see how this could be a problem.

Hi Qphoria,

I am familiar with the override option and the affects of using it with paypal standard. Since I ship 50% of my orders internationally, I have avoided this feature.

But with Paypal Advance you mention this may work better. So if I understand, with Paypal Advanced you can safely use this address override flag. Does this means that the shipping address entered into opencart would override the paypal registered shipping address for those that already have a paypal account.

This would be excellent.

You mention that there is no place to change your shipping address since it stays on your site. Though if a customer already has a registed paypal e-mail, and logs into paypal to use their account, then this paypal address may be different than what they entered into opencart.

I guess this is where the address override would have to work properly. It would need to replace the registered paypal address with the opencart address if it is different.

Thanks.

I'm done actually.. but paypal says it takes 2 days to activate your account
It has been 3 days and nothing.
At this time, I can only test the failed scenario because it always responds with "You do not have permission to make this API call".
So the approval scenario is coded based on their document, but untested until they activate my account.
