ok I have been setting up guest checkout.
How do you guys think this should work?
The only diffrence so far is that you don't require a password.
address is still needed
telephone and email are still needed
I have left in the ability to change shiping and payment addresses.
Do you expect the entire process on one page or something?

I would request a checkout process with minimum of pages; if it can be, even with one page only.
Thanks for all the hard work.

Hello, I'd go with the one page checkout.

preferably one page. Also, put the password field on the success page. Giving customers a passive chance to create an account if they want after the order has completed.

Good idea, but it could be a put off.

How is it a put off? the order is already placed. It just says "Thank you for your order. If you like us to save your information the next time you return, simply create an account by entering your password here:"
Thats it. That's how some department stores do it.. its much preferred.

Do you think I should set the guest checkout to choose the payment and shipping method automaticlly by choosing the cheapest one and not give the customer the right to choose?
Just to cut donw the size of the form.

can't really auto choose the payment unless its the only one offered. But shipping could probably be autochosen. tho I think you might want to make all this configurable in the admin.

I think the main thing is just keeping this in as few steps as possible.
The way most stores do this is something like this:
add item to cart->proceed to checkout->click quick/guest checkout->input address information and preferred method of payment->payment page->confirmation page
One step could be eliminated by having 2 checkout buttons, one being "checkout without logging in" and the other one being "previously registered user checkout" or something to that effect.
I am very excited to see this feature being worked on. This is the main reason I haven't adviced friends to use opencart.

Just a simple idea.

the 1 page check out looks good - the only change I would suggest is putting the option for guest check out above the other two at the account log in page.
Any idea when this feature will be ready?

i would suggest to keep the first checkout page lined up in parallel instead of having the guest checkout alone at the bottom or better yet
perhaps include it in the "I am a new customer" box and change that box top to "I am a guest" then have the two options of registering or checking out quickly
also, for the checking out details page, cant it be listed similar to that on the product details page? so you will have each detail on a tab instead of listing it all in one lengthy page? after confirmation, you could take it to a single page with all entered data for confirmation
you might also consider applying the same for the regular registered customers as well.. so its consistent
Cheers

I definitely support this idea.

I think the same payment and shipping options should still be given as it doesn't make sense to give unregistered customers less options than registered ones. I do think that options for any customer shouldn't even be shown if there's only one option available. I would also suggest combining the payment and shipping options screens into one.
