Hi All

Am new in opencart even after some months of encounter with this product.
Reason being I am not yet putting up a store, a working one.
I would like to know :
1)how often usually Opencart will release new version of SW for upgrade.
2) Should one really upgrade?
3) How tedious will be the upgrade to existing store running online
4) What is the pro and cons for upgrading or not upgrading?

I am still planning for a store and considering Opencart. But I need to know how will upgrading affect the operation of a running store in future.

Thanks

1)how often usually Opencart will release new version of SW for upgrade.
look here on the dates: http://forum.opencart.com/viewforum.php?f=2
Daniel is working really hard on new releases, but you never know when there will be new one, when new release is ready its ready.
3) How tedious will be the upgrade to existing store running online
Every Upgrade to live site is tedious no matter what software you are using.First try upgrade on your test site, then make sure you backup your database and all your files form your server from your live site and go for it.
2) Should one really upgrade?
4) What is the pro and cons for upgrading or not upgrading?
New release have security upgrades or just new futures, so it depends on you if you like to upgrade or not. Best thing is to look what the new release have new in it and then make your decision.

Hope this helps

Hi Rich

Thanks for responding with advice.
I think the concern I have is if I have a store and no time for upgrading , will there be security issue or some bug that I need to suspend my store from operating.
So far, any such upgrading done before for major security breach issue?

Thanks

OpenCart is very secure shopping cart.
You have to keep in mind that hackers are working as hard as ever to get in websites, and all developers are do everything is possible to prevent hacking or other security issues. I looked at OpenCart releases in last 6 months and there are no security patches. So this will tell you one thing OpenCart is good. If you look at other shopping carts they are having security patches all the time.

If there was any major security issue? I don't know about it or read about it, This will be best answered by someone who using OpenCart longer than I.

Like I told you before you will have to upgrade sooner or later.
Thing I tell my clients is: If you do not wont to mess with it hire it done.

One of my clients works in realestate i build website for him and I am hosting his website also. What I do when I see there is new release for the software I am using I wait for them to pick all the bugs out and than I upgrade his live website. This is probably the safest way to do it.

The reason for upgrade is to get new futures what you can use, also the performance of your website.

Hope it helps some.
