The database now contains the following newly introduced fields:

product.length
product.width
product.height

However, I can't find any support for these in the admin's product edit page.

I assume these 3 fields were added because some of the shipping modules may need their values.

I am currently porting the Export/Import module to Opencart 1.3.0, and I am happy to support these 3 fields in there, too, if we want to officially support these fields in the database for Opecart 1.3.0.

Daniel, please let me know what the plan is for these 3 fields.

although i'm not sure how its going to work to calculate the shipping.

For eaxample if some one orders a large number of items how are you supposed split the items up.

are you supposed to have a table with a list of box sizes and we have a function for calculatng which box are required and which items go in whch boxes.

This is a tricky question indeed. I wrote a shipping module a while ago which uses the Australia Post online API for getting quotes, and this API required the length, width, and height arguments. I just had these 3 values pre-configured in the shipping module assuming that all the ordered products would go into a single parcel.

However, I think if we specify the length, height, and width for each individual product then we might as well use them for some shipping modules with the assumption that each product is shipped on its own in a separate parcel. It would perhaps be up to the shipping module to use individual product dimensions or a combined (pre-configured in the shipping module) parcel dimensions.
