Sitemap with large number of products

i found that the google_sitemap.php cannot process large number of products, such as 1,000,000 products. the result will be http 500 error (500 Internal Server Error).

because the rewrite function model_tool_seo_url->rewrite() use up the resources.

how to resolve this problem

It chunks out the sitemaps and creates the sitemap index which you can submit to google or bing sitemap.
