Apologies for the completely noob question...I'm very new to opencart.
All the instructions I've seen regarding the installation, dictate that I should install to the 'public_html' directory.
Is that absolutely necessary, or can I simpley install it to my domain's root directory?
I ask as I'd prefer if my store URL was "www.example.co.uk", rather than "www.example.co.uk/public_html"
I'm doing a clean install of the latest version (1.5.) to a linux server.
Many thanks guys,
Jaz (the noob).

the reason they say that is because probably 70% or more of linux hosts have the root of your site in a public_html folder. You don't install it in http://yourdomain.com/public_html you install it in /home/username/public_html which is where the files for your domain root reside. on some hosts it's httpdocs, and in VERY rare cases somewhere else. But you should install it in whatever folder your domain shows up on.

Spot on, and a huge thanks for the very prompt answer!
Cheers, Jaz.
btw - I got pretty far into creating a store with ZenCart a couple of years back (before I got dragged into something else) and I have to say, OpenCart looks much less bloated. Here's hoping it fulfils the plans I have for it.
Keep up the good work guys! Once I'm up to speed I'll pitch in where ever I can.

well your real problem is that you were not supposed to upload the upload folder. You are only supposed to upload the stuff inside the upload folder. If you have not made any changes or added any products it might be better to just reinstall by only uploading the stuff inside the upload folder.
