SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character

I am using 1.5.1.1 with a new site. Unfortunately our developer left us with a non functional site and I have had to implement the merchant account myself. Upon doing so, when choosing credit card, I get the above indicated error.
I have tried Firebug but cannot find the actual error although I am not qualified to do so either but nothing obvious appears and I do not know where to look in the site to find out if JSON is installed.

Could someone please assist as to how to track this down in detail.

I have searched but again its about locating a corruption of which I am unqualified to do. The site is not published yet, can anyone help if I give them the url?
My cart is in simulator mode so someone can run an order and try it.

this error is sometimes caused by a missing or wrong language file for a payment method. Please check your language files.

You have a payment module called "MES" ?
It should have come with a tpl file
Put that file into catalog/view/theme/default/template/payment/
