1.4.95 to 1.5.3 continue /payment button in checkout hanging

I have just upgraded my store to 1.5.3 (from 1.4.9.5)
yesterday I had 3 customers phone me up to say that they couldn't check out, apparently once they entered their name and address and then click the 'continue' button, the page just hangs - the next section doesn't scroll (ajax ?)
this must be an intermittant problem, as I have experience it only once, and reclicking the checkout breadcrumb makes it reload the page, (which I can't expect the customer to do)
is there any tweaks so that the page slides faster when the continue button on each section of checkout is clicked ?
Thanks
Ron

I don't know a lot about 1.5.x but you might want to watch
http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=43319 as this chap is also having problems

No, its not the same problem, when the continue button on checkout is clicked, nothing happens, there seems to be a delay in the ajax system for the movement, is there anyway I can show all the sections at once ?
this has become a real problem !

Did this ever get fixed? I'm having the same issue with 1.5.1.3. For me it hangs when you click "continue" after selecting the shipping method.

Hi
No not really - I had a strange problem last night with Internet Explorer 8 (I use Firefox usually)
I placed an order through the shop, and when it got to payments, it wouldnt load any (though it worked fine in firefox)
I reinstalled checkout, uninstalled, and reinstalled paymnents , and nothing worked.
I re-loaded the index.php and changed back to default theme, and suddently it worked again when I changed back to my crista theme in 1e8
Im guessing that the problem lay somewhere in the index, but why it was only ie8 that had the problem and not firefox, is baffeling.
Im still getting the odd phone call saying that customers cant check out, but apart from the above, I cant replicate the issue.
What browser are you using ?
Ron

I just discovered that I have the same problem using IE 7 and 8. When i get to the payment method step it hangs. (works fine in Chrome and Firefox).
I too have a custom template but it's only a minor variation of the default template (header, footer and css changes). Were you able to find resolution and/or eliminate any more possibilities?

Hi
as stated above, try reuploding the index.php file and changing back to default template (save) , then back to your normal template.
Not sure out of those 2 steps the glitch was fixed, so try both.
My template also only changed the header, footer and css, so why its creating a problem is beyond me !.
I normally don't use IE so it was lucky that I noticed it, so many of my customers were phoning saying they had a problem, and as i was using firefox I couldnt replicate it.
so there is a bug somewhere, Im glad Im not the only one who has encountered it !!
To clarify, whilst on checkout and selecting guest, everything was fine (addresses, shipping) until it got to payment, then no options would show.
Un / reinstalling checkout & payment options didn't fix the bug only the steps listed above

Thanks for the reply! I'm using FF7, Safari 5. I haven't tried it on a PC yet. I reuploaded the index file and never made any modifications to the template, so this is completely weird to me.
I also noticed that only one of the shipping options appears when I get to the shipping tab, yet, when I look at the log it's actually pulling all of shipping prices and should be displaying two other options.
I might try from scratch again...or have Q do the store update for me...this is getting a bit tiresome.

Ok, this problem is VQMod related.
I have just re-installed VQmod which changes the index.php file
soon as this happens the payment page section hangs in IE8
Any clues ?

hey ronnieb...it can't be strictly VQMod related, as I don't have that installed at all.

I'm going to go with SOLVED for my problem.
Continue button issue on the shipping portion, I simply changed the payment option to paypal in the admin section. It was set to cheque initially, so for whatever reason, it simply wouldn't move to the payment option until that was changed. Either way, it works now.
Now for the shipping options not showing up, I noticed that in the shipping option select box, some of the entries were highlighted in blue. So I unchecked any option that wasn't highlighted (from the four that I had initially picked). Next thing you know, all the shipping options appeared correctly. I think the the admin shipping options was pulling from the USPS Webtools account and highlighted what choices the USPS account allowed. If that's the case, some documentation would be nice...or at least a notation on that screen.
Either way, the update is finally fixed and I'm pretty pumped.
