Shipping Cost per Item

I think I read somewhere that I have to install some module / plug-in if I want to assign shipping cost per item.
Is this correct? If you're selling computer items how do you charge for shipping? Is it fix rate or per item?
The store owner wanted to charge per item - so what do you suggest? I'm using version 1.4.9.6. Thanks in advance.

It also says a new version will be released within a week. My suggestion: wait a week.

Finishing up "Options Boost" tomorrow... then have to finish the landing page for Paypal Express.. then this mod is third on the list... so lets pencil it in for tuesday
