To remove, in file catalog/language/english/common/footer.php find this:
$_['text_powered'] = 'Powered By <a href="http://www.opencart.com">OpenCart</a><br /> %s © %s';
and change to:
$_['text_powered'] = ' ';

I would just donate to them right away. They have created an awesome free program and they don't care if you use it for free and remove there links. You guys are awesome!!!!
