Removing images from server

I have a problem with removing the images from my server. I've searched the forum, but can't find a solution

After a huge problem installing OC, i decided to get rid of everything and start all over

So, i've deleted all files from my server. But the folders images/cache and image/data are still on my server. Trying to remove them gives a "Permission denied" error on all files. I've tried to reset the owner, but with no result at all.

How do I remove these folders?

I had removed the demo-articles that are installed with a new install, but even these images are still in these folders. So removing the article from the shop doesn't remove the images from the server!

Since we have a constantly changing collection of products, this can become a problem in future. The sizes of these folders will become huge if all old images are kept, so a solution would be highly appreciated!!

It sounds as though ownership of the files is a problem.

I had a similar problem (totally different site/package) when I used plesk on a dedicated server I had.

To resolve, I had to 'chown' all the files via SSH from the directory before httpdocs

chown -R ftpuser:apache httpdocs (replace ftpuser)
