Hi,
I am looking in to writing a payment method for Nochex in OpenCart as requested.
I remembered that I setup an account with them but hardly ever used it for some reason so I had a look at the Nochex site to refresh my memory.
Aha I remember now!
Nochex have two types of account "Seller" and "Merchant" the seller account is free to setup but will only accept payments of up to £100 so it was no good to me. The Merchant account (which I have) costs £50 to setup and again has a limit of £1000 (you can negotiate for a higher limit but transaction costs then rise accordingly) so still no good to me as a laptop or desktop pc can cost in excess of that especially purchased in multiples by trade customer etc...
Transaction cost are also quite high:
Seller account: 2.9% + 20p
Merchant account: Tiered % +20p
To use Nochex OpenCart will have to be selective in displaying payment options based on sales total which is exactly why I don't use it (more unnecessary complexity).
If the site owner were to have Nochex as a payment method for their cart they would still have to have a backup payment method like Protx or PayPal in case the sales total was above their agreed limit which defeats the object.
I am lead to believe that the vast majority of people using Nochex only have a Seller account as there is little to no point in having a Merchant account because of the restrictions.
With all of the above in mind and the fact that it is and looks like it will remain very restrictive should I continue to investigate or more likely withdraw it as an option as a payment method in OpenCart at least for now?
Phil.
