I just bought the Category based discounts, but just noticed that it does not support the parent/child category hierachy which is a shame.
Is there any easy edits to get this to work for the parent and child category.
Or what about not by category, but total of all items no matter what product.

It is unfortunately not an easy feat to add category hierarchy support.
Total of all products wouldn't be category discounts.. you'd use something like Auto-Discount Ranges that applies to the whole store

Yes, well discount ranges per item would be better like the Category based discount other than the discount ranges only being on total of the price.
But might just have to make do for now.
If I got time I might make an attempt to make the Category based discount work on child categories too, but the way opencart is structured its not an easy task.
