Link Payment Method to Shipping Method

Is it possible to force a payment type based on the type of Shipping Method.

For Instance, if someone chooses Local Pick Up, the only Payment Option would be Cash On Delivery.

I know the modules are completely separate from what I've read but is there a way to get this done?

You will have to change a fair bit of code to do that
