Can i save chinese character in SQL?

i already set the charset in index.php from UTF-8 to GB2312(Chinese Simplified),
it works well n i can see all the chinese characters which i have typed in those .php files ,
however for all those information (such as category name , product name , "about us", "terms and conditions", welcome message) that need to modify thru admin , it always show
????, most of the time i even can't save it , it will displays the error message :" must be greater than 2 and less than 32 characters!
so , is there anyway for me to save chinese character for those informations....? izzit SQL problem?
