Search not working on product pages (1.4.9.3)

Hi,
I'm having a problem where if you search from the homepage it works fine, but if you search from within a product it adds the search query on the end of the product name and therefore only returns the product and ignores the search.

normal search for 'earrings'
http://www.OURSITE.co.uk/index.php/inde ... d=earrings

search from within a product for 'earrings'
http://www.OURSITE.co.uk/PRODUCTNAME/in ... d=earrings

SEO URLs are turned on and I have justinv's search improved module installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
