I have seen many posts on this subject, but nothing I've tried has worked.
Three weeks ago, everything was working and set up properly. My image files were visible in CPanel, and my FTP client, and I was able to upload images with no problem. Two days ago, several product images showed on my store as blanks. Attempts to reload failed, as the Image Upload Manage could not find the images.
Following post suggestions:
Changed permissions to 777;
Deleted Image/data folder
Deleted Image/cache folder
Reinstalled Image/data folder with all product images
Reinstalled Image/cache folder
None of that worked, and now all my store's product images are blank. I've spent a couple of hours with Hostgator support, and they can't see anything wrong, but nothing work. Also, I have spent hours combing through the forum. One thing I did do was a complete back-up last week. I can restore, but I'm guessing that will not solve the problem of not being able to upload new product images.
Has anyone figured this out? Or, baring the best solution, is there a work-around using the Image Manager?
Any direction would be helpful, as this has me on lock-down now. Being a newbie, I'm willing to try anything that sounds reasonably detailed.

Hi guys..
Having a similar issue here. Everything seemed fine with the site, until recently when our client tried to upload new images.. She's not sure what she did wrong, but now the Image Manager does not display any images.. Checking the folders via FTP shows the images are there.. The images for all the 100+ products on the site are still there. You can upload a new image with the manager, it tells you the files uploaded but it is not displayable in the manager, meaning its not selectable meaning we can not add any new products.
Any ideas?

Thanks, timkirtley,
What seems so odd to me is that so many people are describing the exact same problem, and (obviously) not all users would be hosted by the same one host. It does not make sense that it can be a host issue. Thinking about it, every host would have to making the same changes to all those users' accounts who are having trouble with Image Manager.
As described in many other post throughout the forum, my Image Manager is no long functional. Meaning - I can no long add new product.

Honestly I don't know how common this problem actually is. No doubt that you have an issue but I upload images to my images/data folder as well as sub-folders I set up and they appear just fine. .
here is a topic worth reading

If your image manager has suddenly gone blank, when it was previously functional, you may have a problem with a corrupt image. Try deleting recently uploaded images and see if this restores the image manager. Common culprits here are favicons or other very small images.
This isn't the only possible solution, but it's quick to try. Also check the image filenames, as special characters can sometimes cause a problem.
Other good suggestions are on the thread highlighted by avvici. This is not a common bug but it happens often enough to feature on the forum, and unfortunately there is no single solution.

Okay. There was an issue with corrupt images it does appear.. Not sure what was wrong with them, but deleted the most recent images from the /image/ folder and that has got the image manager working better, in that I can now see all my images again and the image manager and I can select images...
..Problem I now face is that I select an image and it appears in the 'Image' tab. But when I click 'save' the image is no longer referenced, and doesnt appear on the site.. If you look at the img src on the front end of the site it is just blank...
dont know how this is related to 'corrupt' images as the image manager seems to be working better now.. I guess it just isnt recording the URL of the image when I select it in the manager, thus its not being saved properly.
Any ideas about that?
Sorry to divert the thread a bit.. but in regards to the original topic I'd definitely recommend using FTP or a file manager to delete the most recent images from the server and seeing if that restores the images in the image manager.

Thanks for all the replies.
avvici, I did read that topic thread. I did follow the suggestions, to no avial.
moggin, I uploaded all of the images at the same time, with no favicons. I've gone back and tested each image (more than a couple hundred) from my original files to make sure they all opened. Through my FTP client, I then removed the files from my Image/Data folder, and reloaded the ones I checked. They all show on my site, but Image Manager shows nothing and is dead - none of the radio buttons work. The smallest images are 4-5kb, which may/may not be too small. (???) I'll experiment and nuke them and then upload larger images, something in the 20kb range. They did work previously. I did check the my database php product file names back to the product image php file names to be certain they were identical - found some that were not, but now all is in sync. I will try your suggestion and comb through again. Any more would be appreciated.
qahar, how to link? The Image Manager shows in the admin side of opencart (with password protection) when I try to upload new images - is that what you mean? What link would be helpful? How to check for javascript erro? (Newbie, here)
timkirtley, no problem for diversion - every little bit helps. Keep writing.
One thing that has occurred to me is to check where the Image Manager is looking for images -vs- where the images are actually stored. Any ideas on that.
Again, thanks for the help & responses.

If only ONE image has a "special character" (un-recognized by Opencart), the whole folder becomes blank. Just erase images from newest to oldest, and at one point folder will become visible again. Or take a look thru FTP, maybe you can "spot the intruder".
mmm. def a strange one with not being able to select images.. doesnt seem to be a javascript issue as the image manager is working (now).. can select the image, the image appears on the 'Image' tab.. but when you click 'save' and return to the list of products the thumbnail does not show and the image doesnt appear on the front end of the site.. however when I go back in to the product and click on the 'Image' tab the selected image is there! therefore it is being saved correctly somewhere.. just not everywhere, if that makes sense?!
Thanks, XXL and everyone else for the help.
Ok, this may mean something, but being a novice at this, I'm not sure how to proceed.
I've been comparing the database images I've loaded through my FTP client back to CPanel's php files for my database.
In my FTP client, I can see all main product images, and the detail images for each product. Obviously, most products have several images.
Example: Product A
FTP: Main Product A image, and all Product A detail images are visible.
php "product": Main Product A image file is visible
php "product_image": Product A detail image(s) is not visible, and does not show up in my store.
Is this telling me that the image files I can see in my FTP client, but not in my php detail files are corrupt? That would make sense, even though I can open each image file where they are stored on my hard drive.
Would I be correct in deleting the FTP files that do not show in php "product_image", see if that corrects the image load process. Then go back to the image source, re-save as a pdf and reload to my database through my FTP client?
I hope I'm not being too confusing.

may be something file permission, such as .htaccess to block your image
Thanks, konservasi,
Being green at this, would you elaborate a bit? For all product categories and individual products, I've set permissions to 777, as prescribed in this forum, but I take it you're referring to something else?
Performing a search on my CPanel files, I find:
/public_html/.htaccess
/public_html/admin/view/javascript/ckeditor/.htaccess
/public_html/catalog/view/javascript/jquery/demo/captcha/images/.htaccess
Thanks for the reply.
