Product attributes

Is there a way to give certain attributes to products, so visitor could check box(es) "small", "big", or "all", regardless of category where he is browsing my products?

there is nothing for this yet. The only mod I know of for it is my layered navigation mod, but I have not had time to upgrade it to 1.5 yet, and time seems to be in very short supply right now.

It is probably not exactly what you are looking for but there is a search extension for this called Advantced search attributes (with the spelling error).
