I'm moving my store to a new host. With my current host I don't havea ccess to phpMyAdmin to enable me to back up my database.
Is it possible to move my store without access to this? If anyone has experience with this I'd really appreciate the help.
How did you create a database in the first place? if you have access to mysql to set up a database, then of course you have access to it, maybe not phpmyadmin, but something similar. No host will give you the ability to create a database with no way of accessing it :S
Anyway, there are other ways to backup database, using a php file.
Dont quote me how, but you can, because website such as Cart2Cart can backup your database and transfer it, without even having access to your database.

if you dont have phpMyAdmin access then you could contact your host
and have them install your sql file manaully by your host.
still should be no reason for a host to to allow you to have your own phpMyAdmin access

Simple way, go to Admin -> System --> Backup/Restore - backup from your current site, then install OC on your new site, and go to the same area, then restore.

I too need to understand how we can move without direct database access as don't want to make current hosting provider aware we are moving. My issue is the import / export within administration the SQL does not have table insert commands in it. How can we be sure all the data for plugins will be carried over. Will we have to install OpenCart on new server matching version number, then also install plugins, then use import / export? Or is there an easier way. Remembering we have no FTP write access to current server and no MySQL access.

I don't understand why you don't have access to phpMyAdmin, but Opencart has a less than adequate Backup / Restore Feature. You can export all your tables which only have the Truncate and Insert commands of which to run on a new database. Now the reason I say less than adequate is that if your tables have changed due to a MOD or your own programming that added/subtracted fields or modified field types, this type of SQL statement will fail on a new database. it should have been a complete dump of structure and data.
Looks like my next project to fix...

If the shop has the backup activated, you basically do have all information to get going with a same version of opencart.
as stated in the post above, if there are changes to the database, it will not import in a standard install off opencart.
in that case all tables in the export will have to manually edited so a total import can be done, its a time consuming job but it can be done if you understand how a sql dump is working.

If you have remote database access enabled you can just synchronize the contents to another db or get a full dump using something like heidiDB or SQLyog. Use the hosting account's IP as host (usually) and the credentials in your config.
