Delete categories doesn't work

I just made a fresh install of OpenCart and I am unable to delete any of the preloaded categories or currencies.  When I login as an admin, and attempt to delete a category, the system simply goes to a white screen and does nothing else.  If I navigate back to the category page on the admin side, the categories are all still in tact.  I've tested this with both IE 7 and Firefox 3.  Any ideas?  If something this simple won't work, this might be a deal breaker for me.  This seems like a pretty nifty bit of code, but if I can't get it working I might just have to go back to CubeCart or ZenCart...  Any help?
