Can anyone tell me the actual function of the pre-installed UPS module? (1), (2) or (3)?

(1) The UPS module is only a "calculate shipping costs" module, the shipment has to be made again manually in our own UPS account?

(2) The UPS module does the whole shipment's process for an order. i.e. The module calculates the shipping cost of the order and then use the information of the order from the opencart to complete the UPS shipment through our own UPS account?

(3) Others?

Thank you.

Its funny how some questions are asked by multiple people at the same time... (and oddly nobody seems to see the other threads that are opened).

UPS, FedEx, USPS, and most other shipping modules in most carts are "Live Rate Lookups" only. This means when the customer is checking out, the shipping module connects to the shipping server and uses the total weight, total number of products, and shipping address of the store owner and the customer. It then allows the customer to pay the exact shipping rate needed to cover what it will cost the store owner to ship it.

Most of them don't have label printing support at this time but certainly can in the future. I am working on a FedEx one using their new API and I plan to include Rates, Labels, and Tracking.

If the tool only estimates prices then it should not make any difference if the system gets a real price or a test price.

I am wondering what the "Test Mode" option function would be?

Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Perhaps just trying too hard. It returns the rates so that your customers pay the correct amount. If UPS says their test server has new rates for 2012 then you wouldn't want to use their test server.
